The name Crotto comes from the latin "crota" and means cave. These special caves have always been characterized by the "sorèl", a constant temperature air stream which allows an excellent conservation of wine and local products.
Inns grew up on top of some caves, using them as cellars, and became very important meeting points with big tables where people used to play cards, drink a lot of local wine and to eat typical cheese and cold cuts.
Not so long ago Crottos on Lake Como shores and in the near Valchiavenna were many and very popular.
Crotto Regina would like to preserve the authentic spirit of this tradition made of cordiality, seriousness even in the happiness, simplicity, and respect for everyone.
